happy new year!

happy new year!

let's hope its a good one without any tears. yada yada yada.

or, as BC proposed, next year, let's hope that everyone gets candy on halloween.

in other news, BC said that she and her friend Sophia played a game at school today called “People Who Died.” not to be confused with anything by Jim Carroll. one person has to lie still, and the other person is supposed to help her. which begs the question: just what does someone do to help someone who is already dead? of course, i did not ask BC this question. i didn't want to hear the answer.

hmm

hmm

saw magnolia last night. am still a bit perplexed about the ending. the performances were amazing.

anyone got any recent films on DVD to recommend? ones that i would actually see? (that means, good dramas, good comedies, even some chick flics perhaps. no sci fi, no kung fu, nothing that requires an amped-up testosterone level.)

dilemma

dilemma

tomorrow is the only weekday matinee of a show i have wanted to see for years. i have wanted to see Tell Me On A Sunday for nearly 20 years. i love the song TMOAS, and this is still part of the era of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals that doesn't annoy me. however, can i justify the cost of the tickets considering all i have spent this month? i suppose i can see whether ticketplace.org has them for 1/2 price, but even then, after service charges, they will run me about $60.

ugh. anyone?

santa was here

santa was here

a very surreal experience for me this morning. watching my child glow, as she really believes that santa showed up last night. i mean, what else explains the packages, the missing carrots and cookies, and the filled stocking? 😉 this is generally not the type of thing i ever expected to see, considering i am a red sea pedestrian.

BC was thrilled by her gifts, especially the music box. its astonishing how you really don't have to spend a lot of money to get a lot of delight from a small child. at least, not from mine. as for me, i got some nice gifts. perfume, an elton john concert DVD, an adorable teapot (i collect them), really lovely stuff.

tossed and turned all night, though, wondering whether BC was getting out of bed earlier than usual.

bird is the word

bird is the word

well, gee whilickers. i was taking a nap this afternoon when i was awakened by a “chirp chirp chirp.” it seems that beauty, the bird of unknown lineage (is he a parakeet? who knows) is going to spend christmas in my house.

beauty is a guy bird. he was named by the 3-year-olds in miss cindy's class at BC's school. seems miss cindy forgot to see whether someone could house beauty during the holiday season. apparently, a soft-hearted BS agreed. so now we have this little blue chirping machine in our house. i felt obligated to keep him company for about a half hour, and then i decided, ah, he probably would revel in peace and quiet. i mean, if you had 10 3-year-olds talking, screaming, and sticking fingers in your cage every day, you would probably like some peace, too.
