the thanksgiving prep begins

the thanksgiving prep begins

man, people who don't prepare T-day meals have no idea what goes into it.

thus far:

dough for rolls mixing (check)
chocolate snickerdoodle cake baking (check)
cranberry orange relish mixed (check).

i hope that @#$@!#$ turkey defrosts. it has been in the fridge since monday.

there are potatoes, veggies, and other things still. not to mention cleaning.

all this. and i hate food currently. poultry being #1 on my food aversion list :/

it's the little things

it's the little things

every now and then, little acts of kindness, no matter how seemingly insignificant, renew my faith in humankind.

going through the Taco Smell Drive-Thru today (my stomach is ill, and yet all i can think to eat are their nasty bean burritos. go figure.) , i dropped about 30 cents between my car and the curb. the lady looked at me as i was opening my car door, about to search for the dimes. “you short?” she said.

“i dropped my dimes between the car and the curb,” i replied.

“happy thanksgiving. go on thru,” she said, despite being 30 cents short.

people can be nice.

today, i visited BC's school. this is multicultural month, and so all parents have a day when they have to come in and talk about their family's culture. since we are some of the last parents to do this, we realized that our various cultures had been covered a bunch of ways. i figured we would talk about the music of our cultures. in short, BS taught the kids how to do the arm gestures to “the unicorn song” and i taught the kids to dance a wild hora to some cool klezmer music. it was really fun.

but before this lovely display of culcha, the kids were gathered around BC's teacher, miss naomi. miss naomi was making up a story, asking the kids to fill in blanks a la Mad Libs, to move the story along. thus, we were listening to a story about an evil squid who lived on a purple planet who apparently ate me up. but the best part? miss naomi asked the kids: what is the name of the evil squid? BC's best friend yelled out, “BILLY CARTER!”

you know, i couldn't make this stuff up if i wanted to.

the light at the end of the tunnel?

i am afraid i am going to jinx myself. but hell, here goes.

::drum roll please:: this morning, i was not nauseous.

::jumping happily::

i am only feeling a little queasy now. i actually got some things DONE today. i was actually slightly USEFUL today. of course, i am exhausted. that doesn't seem to have abated. and i still have no interest in food. but the fact that i did not need a toilet today other than for typical uses made me so thrilled.

maybe i'm on my way to feeling like myself again. my surly, crabby, cranky self 😉

BS's Birthday

BS's Birthday

let's see what fun i can be on BS's Birthday, which is today.

hmm. got him cinnamon buns yesterday for his breakfast – he loves them. check.

BC made a birthday card from us to him. check.

i drove out to the Carvel in Fairfax to get him his annual Fudgie The Whale birthday cake. don't ask me how we started this tradition, but he has had a Fudgie cake every year since i don't know when. check.

his birthday present still hasn't shown up in the mail yet. wah!

and, i would like to take him to dinner, but considering we are limited by the fact that a) we have a nearly-four-year-old in tow, and b) i have this little food aversion problem at the moment, i think he might not have the best evening.

maybe i can bring in something from takeout?
